Toe deformities such as hammer toes, claw toes, or curly toes often occur when the tendons that control toe movement become too tight. Since tendons connect muscles to bones, a tendon that becomes too tight or overactive can pull the toes into a bent or curled position.

This can cause problems such as:

  • Painful calluses or corns from increased pressure or rubbing
  • Toe Stiffness/Reduced Range of motion
  • Pain or discomfort when walking

When treatments like padding, orthotics, or footwear changes aren’t enough, a tenotomy may be a simple and effective solution worth considering.

What Is a Tenotomy and How Does It Work?

A tenotomy is a minimally invasive procedure that involves releasing a tight tendon that is pulling the toe into an abnormal position. By carefully cutting or releasing the tendon through a very small incision, the toe is able to relax and return to a more natural alignment.

Benefits of a Tenotomy:

Minimally Invasive: Requires only a tiny incision, done in our clinic under local anesthesia, meaning patients typically feel little to no discomfort during the procedure.

Pain Relief: Reduces pressure, friction, and discomfort of the foot.

Fast Recovery: Most patients can walk immediately after the procedure and return to normal activities within days.
