Arthritis doesn’t have to slow you down — take the right steps toward pain relief and better mobility.
Joint Pain with Every Step? You Don’t Have to Live with It.
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis — and when it affects the feet, ankles, or lower limbs, even short walks can become painful.
At Step Right Foot Clinic, we help patients manage arthritis in the toes, midfoot, ankle and even address gait issues from knee and hip arthritis. With custom orthotics, shockwave, footwear adjustments, and personalized plans, we help restore your mobility — without the need for injections or surgery.
No referral needed — book your assessment today and get moving again.
What Is Osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic condition where the protective cartilage between joints breaks down, leading to pain, stiffness, swelling, and reduced motion.
In the lower limbs, OA often affects:
- 1st MTP joint (big toe) – causing hallux rigidus or hallux limitus. Bunions can also be involved.
- Midfoot joints – leading to arch pain and instability
- Ankle joint – causing swelling, enlargement of the joint and movement restriction
- Lesser toe joints – often with deformities like clawed toes, stiffness, and corns
- Knees & hips – affecting foot alignment and walking patterns
As cartilage deteriorates, bone-on-bone contact, inflammation, and bony spurs (osteophytes) can make walking painful. The good news? Early intervention and support can make a big difference.
Symptoms of Osteoarthritis in the Foot & Ankle
You may be experiencing arthritis in your foot, ankle, or lower limb if you notice:
- Joint stiffness after rest
- Pain that worsens with walking or activity
- Swelling or warmth over joints
- A grinding or “catching” sensation in the joint
- A bunion or bone spur forming near the joint
- Trouble pushing off, squatting, or climbing stairs
- Gait changes due to knee or hip pain
How We Treat Osteoarthritis
We provide evidence-based, conservative treatment tailored to the joint(s) affected, your activity level, and your goals.
- Custom Orthotics: Orthotics offload pressure from painful joints, corrects alignment, and reduces stress on arthritic toes, arches, and ankles. Especially helpful for people with compensatory knee or hip arthritis.
- Footwear Advice & Modifications: We can help you choose arthritis-friendly shoes with rocker soles, stiff midsoles, or extra depth for bunions and joint swelling.
- Shockwave Therapy: For chronic arthritis pain (especially in the 1st MTP joint or midfoot), we may recommend Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy to stimulate healing, reduce pain, and break up scar tissue.
- Padding, Bracing & Supports: Used to protect joint prominences, relieve skin irritation, and stabilize gait.
- Gait and Footwear Analysis: We assess how your foot mechanics may be contributing to joint wear — and optimize your walking pattern.
- Collaboration: If you need additional care (e.g., rheumatology, imaging, or orthopedic consultation), we can coordinate with your medical team.
