Chiropodists are essential members of the interprofessional healthcare team. The role of chiropodists is to maintain and improve patient mobility, alleviate foot pain, and provide health education. Chiropodists are skilled in assessing their patient’s needs, and managing both acute and chronic conditions.
Chiropodists provide care to a wide range of patients, which include but is not limited to nail care, corn and callus removal, warts, wounds, surgeries, orthotics and compression socks.
In Ontario, both podiatrists and chiropodists are licensed foot health professionals who treat foot and ankle pain, nail conditions, skin issues, and more.
The main difference is in training location and title:
- Podiatrists trained in the U.S. or registered in Ontario before 1993
- Chiropodists trained in Ontario or arrived after 1993

During your first appointment, you will fill out a medical history and consent form, which will be reviewed with the chiropodist. A comprehensive foot and ankle assessment will be conducted, followed by a discussion of appropriate treatment options. Treatment will be performed and a follow up appointment will be scheduled as necessary to provide the best care for your feet.
Referrals from a physician or other health care provider are not necessary to see the chiropodist.
